Business Information Management

B.S. Interdisciplinary Studies · UC Irvine · 2026-2027 Catalog

Rapid technological change and the growing importance of data and analytics have increased demand for graduates who understand both business fundamentals and the practical application of technology. Effective use of technology and analytics in business requires strong software and data management skills, the ability to build analytics for real business problems, and a clear understanding of consumer and client needs.

The Business Information Management major is an interdisciplinary program jointly offered by the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences and the Paul Merage School of Business. It provides students with the technical, analytical, and managerial skills needed to use technology and data for strategic business decision-making.

The curriculum combines computing, data analytics, market analysis, and core business coursework, preparing students to connect analytical insights with organizational impact. Students learn to interpret data, design information systems, align technological solutions with business objectives, and turn insights into actionable business strategies.

Graduates are well prepared for careers in business analytics, information systems, consulting, product strategy, and technology-driven innovation, as well as for advanced studies in information management, analytics, and related fields. More information about the major and its opportunities is available at the Department of Informatics website.
