The focus of this program is on developing an understanding of and appreciation for the basic laws of our physical universe. This is done largely through the development of conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and laboratory investigations. The program is an offering in introductory physics requiring math through calculus. This sequence satisfies the lower division physics requirement for majors in physics, chemistry, geology or other physical sciences, and engineering. Students will learn to analyze and solve problems appropriate for this level. Experiments relating to the topics covered will be performed. The Associate in Science in Physics is fully transferable to the CSU. Students who meet the CSU’s minimum eligibility requirements are guaranteed priority admission to a CSU campus, though not necessarily to a particular campus or major. With this degree you will be required to take no more than 60 semester or 90 quarter units after transfer to complete a bachelor’s degree if you transfer into a program at the CSU that’s similar to the Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer.
