The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer requires students to critically analyze child development theory, developmentally appropriate approaches, and instructional strategies that positively influence children’s learning and development.

Students explore the importance of developmental domains and use their knowledge to design, implement, and evaluate meaningful curriculum and environments that promote comprehensive developmental learning outcomes for children. Child observation, documentation, and assessment are explored as essential practices in order to develop effective curriculum and interventions. The California Title 22 regulations, standards, and policies required for early care and education programs are examined. Ethical guidelines, professional practices, and advocacy are assessed to inform future practitioners of standards in the early childhood profession. The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer degree qualifies students for transfer to a California State University (CSU) to complete a Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or related majors.

To earn an Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer degree, a student must complete 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the CSU including the Cal-GETC pattern and a major of at least 18 units or more. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework to receive an associate degree for transfer and all courses in the major must be completed with a C or better. Students earning an associate degree for transfer will not be required to complete any other local graduation requirements. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass or No Pass basis.
