Using real world texts, provides a firm foundation in the orthography, grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of Modern Standard Arabic. Develops basic spoken communication, pronunciation, alphabet recognition, essential vocabulary, and grammar with exposure to common dialects and cultural practices. ### ARABIC 15B — Conversational Arabic - **Units:** 5 - **Prerequisite:** ARABIC 15A with a minimum grade of C. Placement into ARABIC 15B is also accepted - **Offered:** not on the Fall 2026 schedule Low-intermediate colloquial Arabic course for students with limited prior experience. Strengthens spoken communication, expands vocabulary and grammar control, and builds the ability to sustain conversations across commonly used dialects. ### ARABIC 15C — Conversational Arabic - **Units:** 5 - **Prerequisite:** ARABIC 15B with a minimum grade of C. Placement into ARABIC 15C is also accepted - **Offered:** not on the Fall 2026 schedule - (VI) Intermediate colloquial Arabic course for students with prior foundational experience. Advances conversational fluency through more complex dialogues while refining pronunciation, vocabulary range, and grammatical accuracy across commonly used dialects. ### ARABIC 51 — Introduction to the Koran - **Units:** 4 - **Offered:** not on the Fall 2026 schedule - (IV and VIII) An introduction to understanding the Koran and its significance to Muslim life, culture, and history. An overview of scholarly traditions related to the Koran, and its critics.
