# Computer Science (Associate in Science Degree for Transfer (AS-T)) Orange Coast College · 2026-2027 Catalog · Department: Computer Science Source: https://catalog.cccd.edu/orange-coast/pathways/computers-computing/computer-science/computer-science-ast/ The Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree in Computer Science prepares students to enter a similar baccalaureate program in the California State University system with 60 units of upper-division coursework. Completion of the AS-T guarantees admission to the CSU system—though not to a specific campus or major—provided students maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all CSU-transferable coursework. Because some majors may require a higher GPA and not all four-year institutions accept the Computer Science AS-T, students are advised to consult with a counselor when planning their transfer. By successfully completing the courses for the AS-T in Computer Science, students will gain a practical and theoretical understanding for future studies in Computer Science, and be prepared for a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or similar major. #### Program Learning Outcomes 1. Design, implement, test, and debug small-scale programs that use fundamental programming constructs and object-oriented programming concepts. 2. Develop and apply data structures and algorithms with software engineering practices to create efficient, well-structured programs. 3. Write and analyze assembly/machine-level programs to demonstrate understanding of computer organization, data representation, and the translation of high-level code. 4. Apply discrete mathematics and logic (sets, relations, functions, counting, graphs, trees, probability) to analyze computing problems and reason about algorithms. ### Requierments #### Associate Degree for Transfer Requirements The following is required for all AA-T or AS-T degrees: 1. Minimum of 60 CSU-transferable semester units. 2. Minimum GPA of at least 2.0 in all CSU transferable coursework. While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors require a higher GPA. Consult with a counselor for more information. 3. Completion of a minimum of 18-semester units in the major as detailed in the Degree and Certificate section of this catalog. All courses in the major must be completed with a grade of C (or “P”) or better. 4. Certified completion of the Cal-GETC/Breadth. 5. A minimum of 12 units in residence within the Coast Colleges (Orange Coast College, Golden West College and/or Coastline College). | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | ↳ CS A170 & CS A275 | Java Programming 1and Data Structures in Java | 7 | | CS A242 | Computer Organization and Assembly Language | 3 | | CS A262 | Discrete Structures | 3 | | MATH A180 | Calculus I: Early Transcendentals | 5 | | or MATH A180H | Calculus I: Early Transcendentals - Honors | | | MATH A185 | Calculus II: Early Transcendentals | 5 | | or MATH A185H | Calculus II: Early Transcendentals - Honors | | | PHYS A185 | Calculus-Based Physics: Mechanics with Lab | 5 | | PHYS A280 | Calculus-Based Physics: Electricity/Magnetism with Lab | 4-5 | | or BIOL A180 | Introduction to Biology for Majors 1: Cell and Molecular Biology | | | or BIOL A185 | Introduction to Biology for Majors 2: Ecology, Evolution, Diversity, and Physiology | | | or CHEM A180 | General Chemistry A | | | **Total Major Units** | | 32-33 | | **Cal-GETC General Education Breadth** | | 34 | | **Total Degree Units** | | 60 | 1.
