Through working from observation and imagination as the backbone of the curriculum, students learn about medium, form, and content. The principal component of the program is studio activity, and students explore studio work that demonstrates individual expression, critical thinking, and an awareness of historical and contemporary art making. Critical dialogue and rigorous expectations about craftsmanship and studio best practices support work toward an artistic vision. #### Program Learning Outcomes Upon the successful completion of this program, students should be able to: 1. Gain functional competence with principles of visual organization, including the ability to work with visual elements in two and three dimensions; color theory and its applications; and drawing. 2. Present work that demonstrates perceptual acuity, conceptual understanding, and technical facility at a professional entry level in sculpture. 3. Become familiar with the historical achievements, current major issues, processes, and directions of sculpture. 4. Be afforded opportunities to exhibit their work and to experience and participate in critiques and discussions of their work and the work of others. | Course | Title | Units | | --- | --- | --- | | ART 2A | Introduction to Drawing (Active) | 3 | | ART 16A | Introduction to Ceramics I (Active) | 3 | | ART 17A | Beginning Sculpture 1 (Active) | 3 | | ART 17B | Beginning Sculpture 2 (Active) | 3 | | ART 20 | All Media Sculpture (Active) | 3 | | ART 22 | Metal Sculpture - Lost Wax Bronze Casting (Active) | 3 | | ART 23 | 2-D Foundations (Active) | 3 | | ART 24 | 3-D Foundations (Active) | 3 | | ART 45 | Artist Portfolio and Self-Promotion (Active) | 1.5 | | ARTH C1200 | Survey of Art from the Renaissance to Contemporary (Active) | 3 | | ART 2B | Drawing and Composition (Active) | 3 | | ART 3A | Figure and Composition I (Active) | 3 | | ART 7A | Introduction to Watercolor Painting (Active) | 3 | | ART 12A | Beginning Oil Painting (Active) | 3 | | ART 13A | Acrylic Painting - Beginning I (Active) | 3 | | ART 13B | Acrylic Painting - Beginning II (Active) | 3 | | ART 16B | Introduction to Ceramics II (Active) | 3 | | ART 18A | Wood and Stone Sculpture I (Active) | 3 | | ART 18B | Wood and Stone Sculpture II (Active) | 3 | | ART 61 | Illustration (Active) | 3 | | DIGM 1 | Introduction to Digital Art (Active) | 3 | | DIGM 2 | Introduction to Graphic Design (Active) | 3 | | DIGM 4A | Digital Illustration (Active) | 3 | | DIGM 6A | Photoshop (Active) | 3 | | DIGM 10A | Introduction to Animation (Active) | 3 | | DIGM 11 | Video Editing (Active) | 3 | | FILM 16 | Documentary Filmmaking (Active) | 3 | | PHOT 1A | Digital Photography I (Active) | 3 | | PHOT 2A | Black and White Darkroom Photography (Active) | 3 | | PHOT 3A | Introduction to Studio Lighting (Active) | 3 | | PHOT 4A | Color Theory for Photographers (Active) | 3 | | PHOT 6A | Photoshop (Active) | 3 | | ARTH C1100 | Survey of Art from Prehistory to the Medieval Era (Active) | 3 | | ARTH 6 | Art History - Twentieth- and Twenty-First Century Art (Active) | 3 | | ARTH 8 | Art History - A Global Perspective (Active) | 3 | | **Total** | | **65.5** | #### Other Information Discipline: Arts & Design Program Control Number: 37686 TOP Code: 100220 - Sculpture CIP Code: 50.0709 - Sculpture
